Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer telehealth counseling sessions?

You bet I do!  Many clients prefer the convenience of telehealth video sessions (not zoom!) which I provide via a HIPPA secure platform.  And yes, I also offer in person counseling sessions by appointment only.

How Does this Counseling Stuff Work?

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I blend counseling, coaching, advocacy & care management together to best match your strengths and goals.   CBT is a type of counseling that is evidenced based and well researched–it’s super effective!  Together, we will discover what matters most to you, what inspires you, what makes you laugh, what motivates you, where you are stuck, and of course, what freaks you out!  Together, we will develop strategies for you to get un-stuck, so you can spend more time on those things that matter most!

How Long Will Counseling Take?

Most clients work with me for 10-15 sessions (or less), depending on their goals and level of motivation.  Clients often come back for “booster” sessions here and there, to navigate bumps in the road of life.  I LOVE that my clients know “I’m here” and feel they can come back to recharge and regroup, whenever life throws a curveball their way!

What are Your Office Hours?

My goal is to have a regular time for you each week that works for your schedule. When you book your free 15-minute strategy session, we can discuss what time of the day works best for you or your loved one and develop a plan.

About Insurance?

Although I do not take insurance, your health insurance provider may cover my counseling services in part or in full through your out-of-network benefits.  Please contact your insurance provider to verify if and how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.  If they will reimburse you, I can give you a receipt which is called a Superbill and shows that you paid for counseling services.  You would then send a copy of your Superbill to your insurance company to reimburse you for all or part of my services.

I see counseling as a true investment in yourself, your loved ones, and your family, so that you can move forward with your life.  My counseling services are a flat fee of $150 per 50-minute session.  Coordination of your care is important, and I do a lot outside of counseling sessions to ensure your care and momentum towards your goals.  However, I do not believe in charging clients extra fees for my time spent on things in between sessions (our phone calls, emails, consultations with physicians, psychiatrists, teachers, coaches, etc).  This is all included in your session fee (with the exception of court related expenses).

How Do I Pay for Counseling?

I accept all major credit cards as forms of payment. You can pay directly through your HIPAA secure client portal, through Zelle (brandy.stephens@theventureseekers.com), or Venmo (@Venture-Seekers). Normally, when sessions are occurring in the office, I accept cash and check as well.

What if I Need to Cancel a Session?

If you need to cancel, please (pretty please!) make sure you cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. This gives me a chance to contact folks who wanted a session this week, but who could not find an opening.  If you cancel less than 48 hours or do not “show up” for the appointment, you are financially responsible for the full fee of the session, which is $150.

So, What’s Up with the Name?

Ha!  Good question!  The name Venture Seekers emerged from a lot of soul searching, after being upended from a job I loved.  I was stuck and not sure what to do next!  I began to read more, reflect more and train more.  During this process two words kept popping up–“Venture” and “Seek.”  It became clear that it was time for me to step out in faith and start my own counseling program.  I realized that so many of us, regardless of age, are stuck and searching for something better.  We cannot experience adventure (or at least it’s difficult to enjoy), until we are able to venture beyond the stuck spots—whatever that may be in our lives!  “To Venture” means to do something new or risky, but with a plan.  Thus, Venture Seekers is a phrase for folks who want to venture beyond where they are stuck, to seek what matters most what matters most in their lives.

And the Logo?

The tree limb and swing? Well, we have a giant tree swing in our backyard that takes daring souls high into the trees (about 25 feet in the air) which both kids and adults enjoy!  (No, sadly, I cannot have the swing at the office for you to try!!).  The swing is fascinating because some folks hop right on it, without thinking, and take off!  It is only when they are in mid-air, that they ask how they are supposed to get off the swing!  Some folks approach the swing by watching someone else swing first, wanting all the tips and “rules” about getting on it, but they eventually try and love the swing.  Some folks totally avoid the swing, saying “the swing is not for me.” They watch others enjoy the swing, yet they miss out on having a fun experience.  I take special interest in the folks who avoid the swing, because they are often stuck and missing out on something fun.  Eventually, through much exposure to the swing and lots of coaching, these folks try the swing and love it too.  In fact, they often say, “Why did I waste so much time being afraid of the swing?!”—and they do not want to stop swinging!

I have embraced this tree limb and swing as an anology about how we approach life…to get a new perspective and approach to finding what matters most in our lives.
